G — Insurance Terms

General Average, Gross Premium, Group Health Insurance.

General Average Müşterek Avarya (General Average)
The maritime principle that losses deliberately incurred to save the ship and cargo from a common peril (e.g. jettisoning cargo, tug hire) are shared proportionally among all parties with an interest in the voyage: shipowner, cargo owners and freight interests. Governed by the York-Antwerp Rules.
Gross Premium Brüt Prim
The total premium charged to the policyholder before deduction of reinsurance premiums ceded, agent commissions and taxes. Gross Written Premium (GWP) is a key performance indicator for insurers, representing total premium income before any retrocession or reinsurance costs. Net premium = gross premium minus ceded reinsurance premium.
Group Health Insurance Grup Sağlık Sigortası
Health insurance arranged by an employer for a group of employees, typically on more favourable terms than individual policies due to the aggregated risk pool. Group health schemes may complement the state social security system (SGK) in Turkey, either as top-up cover (TSS) or as a standalone private health plan.
