INSURANCE GLOSSARY

E — Insurance Terms

Electronic Equipment Insurance (EEI), Electronic Funds Transfer Crime, Elevator / Lift Liability Insurance and more.

Electronic Equipment Insurance (EEI) Elektronik Cihaz Sigortası (EEI)
Insurance for computers, servers, telecoms and medical equipment against electrical failure, short circuits, power surges, accidental damage in transit and theft. Optional extensions cover the cost of reinstating data and software lost due to a covered event.
Electronic Funds Transfer Crime Elektronik Fon Transferi Suçu (EFT Crime)
Coverage for losses from fraudulent electronic fund transfers initiated by social engineering attacks, forged instructions or unauthorised system access. CEO fraud (Business Email Compromise/BEC) and vendor payment fraud are the most common triggers in Turkish and international claims.
Elevator / Lift Liability Insurance Asansör Sorumluluk Sigortası
Insurance covering the legal liability of a building owner or manager for bodily injury or property damage caused by a faulty or poorly maintained elevator. Practically mandatory in Turkey alongside the periodic elevator inspection regulations.
Employer's Liability Insurance İşveren Sorumluluk Sigortası
Liability insurance covering an employer's legal liability for work-related injury or occupational disease claims brought by employees. In Turkey, the mandatory SGK cover may be insufficient for severe claims; employer's liability fills the gap above that statutory floor.
Energy Insurance Enerji Sigortası
Specialist insurance covering energy generation and transmission assets including solar, wind, hydroelectric and battery storage facilities. Coverage spans the construction phase (CAR/EAR), the operational phase (property all risk, machinery breakdown, business interruption) and liability. Energy risks are typically placed in specialist markets such as Lloyd's of London.
Engineering Insurance Mühendislik Sigortası
An umbrella term for specialist insurance products covering engineering and machinery risks, including Construction All Risk (CAR), Erection All Risk (EAR), Machinery Breakdown (MB), Electronic Equipment Insurance (EEI) and Advance Loss of Profits (ALOP). Each product addresses a distinct phase of the asset lifecycle from construction through operation.
Entity Coverage (Side C) Organizasyon (Kurum) Kapsam (Side C)
The D&O policy layer that insures the corporate entity itself (rather than individual directors/officers under Side A and Side B). Responds to direct claims against the company, most commonly securities claims. Available in narrow (securities only) and broader forms.
Environmental Liability Insurance Çevre Kirliliği Sorumluluk Sigortası
Liability insurance covering clean-up costs, third-party claims and regulatory fines arising from pollution of soil, water or air caused by business operations. Covers obligations under the EU Environmental Liability Directive and Turkish environmental legislation.
Erection All Risk (EAR) Montaj All-Risk (EAR)
Insurance covering loss or damage to machinery, mechanical and electrical equipment during erection, installation and commissioning. Unlike CAR, EAR typically covers damage resulting from mechanical and electrical breakdown during testing, in addition to all-risks physical loss or damage. Common in power generation, industrial plant and infrastructure projects.
Errors and Omissions Insurance (E&O) Hata ve İhmal Sigortası (E&O)
Liability insurance for professional service providers (consultants, engineers, software developers) against third-party financial loss caused by negligent advice, design error or omission. The term E&O is the North American equivalent of PI (Professional Indemnity) insurance, widely used in technology and financial services.
Ex Gratia Payment Ex Gratia Ödeme
A voluntary payment made by an insurer to an insured without any legal obligation, as a gesture of goodwill or to preserve a business relationship. Does not constitute an admission of liability; kept limited in insurance accounting to avoid precedent-setting.
Excess of Loss Reinsurance (XL) Hasar Fazlası Reasüransı (XL)
A form of non-proportional reinsurance in which the reinsurer pays losses exceeding the cedant's retention up to an agreed limit. If the cedant has a retention of USD 10M and an XL layer of USD 90M xs USD 10M, a USD 50M loss results in the cedant paying USD 10M and the reinsurer USD 40M. Structured on a per-risk or per-occurrence basis.
Experience Rating Deneyim Derecelendirmesi
An actuarial pricing methodology where the reinsurance premium is derived from the cedant's own historical loss record. Past loss ratios are analysed to project future claims; at least five years of data are typically required for statistical credibility.
Export Bond İhracat Kefaleti
A surety bond securing an exporter's obligations to an overseas buyer or authority, such as the commitment to export agreed goods, meet delivery terms or comply with customs regulations. Widely used in international tenders and supply contracts.
Extended Reporting Period (Tail Cover) Uzatılmış Bildirim Dönemi (Tail Cover)
An endorsement on claims-made policies allowing claims arising from acts during the policy period to be reported for an agreed period after expiry (typically 1–3 years or unlimited). An alternative name for run-off cover; critical on D&O, PI and cyber placements.
